the lab

The Equitable Cities RESEARCH Lab explores the co-production of theory, mapping, and design with underprivileged populations to address systemic exclusion.

Based at the Carleton University’s Azrieli School of Architecture and rooted in the agency of design, the lab strives to transform academic work into service to communities by generating tangible outcomes: trust networks, design-built, policy changes, funding reallocation, and academia-industry collaborations.

We also produce academic publications to advance the field of spatial justice by exploring innovative methods, concepts, and visualizations that places the voices of communities at the center.
