COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

CO-DESIGNING A COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE IN OVERBROOK

This project is a collaboration the residents at 251 and 255 Donald St. in Ottawa to co-design and build a small-scale community infrastructure in Foster Farm. A community infrastructure is an architecture or public spaces designed to support ongoing community activities, needs, or aspirations for the neighborhood. Examples of these architectures are a community garden, a shading device, a community pantry, a play structure, or an outdoor gym among other possibilities.

In this consultation, Carleton University students engage with the residents to discuss possibilities. The interaction was facilitate by the course Community Engaged Design (Fall 2023) and Building with Communities (Winter 2024) led by Natalia Escobar Castrillón and in partnership with Ottawa Community Housing and the Rideau Rockcliffe Community Resource Center.
